To start the new year, and running alongside the London Art Fair, Messums London is looking back to the last 100 years of creative expression in Britain in a celebration of Modern and contemporary British art. Over the past century, Britain has become one of the world’s great centres for art, rivalling Paris and New York. London has been at the heart of that story and this exhibition at our Cork Street gallery, which incorporates a diverse array of artists working in a wide variety of media, explores the unique character of modern British art – its exuberance, its diversity, its literary leanings, its propensity towards social commentary, and its sense of humour. Realism, Classicism, Romanticism, Pop, Abstraction, Conceptualism, and more are represented in this multifaceted exhibition which invites us to think deeper about British art and artists.
