Opening Hours

Messums West is a multi-purpose gallery and arts centre based at the Tithe Barn, Place Farm, Tisbury in Wiltshire. The venue opened in Autumn 2016 after a two-year restoration project to bring a thirteenth century monastic barn, the largest thatched building in the country, back to life as an exhibition and event space. The gallery’s one year anniversary was marked by the opening of the Long Gallery, a former dairy that lies perpendicular to the main barn, and a space to present two-dimensional works of art and objects of scale. The Mess Restaurant was opened in the same year and the exterior courtyard was remodelled in 2021 with extensive presentational space for sculpture.

Opening Hours

Messums London is the capital focus to the exhibition programming. It is a destination for a rolling programme of solo and thematic shows reflecting the support and progress of our represented artists and other interests. Presentations throughout the year reflect core specialisms within the breadth of the arts represented, encompassing architecture, painting, drawing, ceramic, sculpture, film, photography, performance, textiles and more. The programme celebrates the exceptional and outstanding in all these genres and complements the events that take place across our other venues.

The Mess is at the heart of Messums West and is an ideal place to reflect on the art on display whilst catching up with friends and family over a freshly ground coffee or speciality tea with homemade cake. Our courtyard garden offers our guests the chance to soak up more of the beautiful surroundings here at Messums.

Opening in Spring 2025, the former Post Office building in London Road North will be refurbished and transformed into a 21st century hub for creativity and, in so doing, will maintain the heritage of this historically important building in the heart of the town. It will offer a meeting place for minds steeped in a range of genre, together with exhibition spaces, a screening room and a café/ restaurant.

Opening Hours
Set in buildings on a converted American World War II Airbase, Messums Studios have run full time as teaching art studios since 2021 offering term-based courses in ceramic and in drawing as well as one-on-one tuition and outreach. Its aim is to support life-long creative learning with the emphasis on the individual’s development of creative language through tuition in the skills of making and in material knowledge.
Messums Studios helps to foster a community of creatives of all ages, abilities, and levels of expertise to engage with the various languages of making. Within our primary exhibition programming, audiences can continue to engage with making processes by connecting with our visiting and exhibiting artists through talks, studio visits and on-site workshops. Our guiding principle is the presentation of art as empathetic language and the integration of creativity within communication.

In theatrical circles, the ‘green room’ is the place where artists prepare to go on stage, traditionally painted green with low lighting to encourage an environment of relaxed contemplation. Inspired by this concept, The Green Room at Messums London is an unique space in the Cork Street gallery dedicated to showcasing innovative new and emerging contemporary art from around the world; a place to find exciting world-class talent before it takes centre stage.

The intimate solo and mixed exhibitions in The Green Room will operate separately from the main programme in the gallery, rotating regularly, creating a dynamic centre for emerging contemporary art at the heart of the London art world’s most prestigious street.
