“The Aguas Calientes mountain range, north- eastern Chile, unfolds across the panorama, unraveling in delicate hues of blues, browns, yellows and dusky pinks. This panoply of colours is caused by different mineral combinations in varying shades of oxidation, such as iron, copper, and sulphur. Bursts of aquamarine blue water are a result of pure white volcanic ash that forms at the bottom of the lagoon combining with the reflection of the blue skies above. Extreme salinity of the lake prevents freezing, despite temperatures frequently plunging to minus 30°c.”
