Sir Terry Frost (1915-2003) is one of the foremost abstract artists the UK. Frost converted to abstraction due to guidance from Victor Pasmore and the influence of other artists from St Ives. Born in Leamington Spa, he served in WWII and became a POW in 1941. While imprisoned in Bavaria he started painting. After the war, he went to Birmingham College of Art and Camberwell School of Art. In 1965 he won the John Moores Painting Prize and became a Royal Academician in 1992.
