“Captured in the final few minutes before darkness, with the setting sun casting a long shadow thrown by an adjacent smaller hill, the shifting tone and colour of dusky light is evident across these mountains in Aguas Calientes, north- eastern Chile. This particular peak, which I nicknamed after the mottled surface of the mountain, is formed of black lava so young that the effects of erosion are not yet noticeable.”
