Written and Created by award-winning playwright and novelist Barney Norris. Inspired by the work of Charlotte Mellis at Tin Shed Gallery. Composer Ailie Robertson
A Stranger Comes To Town is a brand-new, soulful touring story exploring the things we throw away and the way they sometimes come to define us. An interactive piece of storytelling created in response to the landscapes and artists of Mull. Audiences will be invited to enter into a beautiful, intricate sculptural installation put up in their local village hall, and piece together the story of what happened there – who passed through and left this sculpture behind them, made of things salvaged from the sea and haunted by the beautiful music of the harpist and composer Ailie Robertson.
Hidden within the sculpture are a series of stories: as the audience seeks them out, a story will unfold of loss and transience, things saved and salvaged from the sea and the way that wreckage can turn into relic. Among broken stones, bleached bones, glass bottles, plastic packaging, cardboard envelopes and defunct cassettes, a story has been hidden for an audience to find, and perhaps even to add to…
Contains themes of grief and loss. The performance runs for around 30 minutes. Suitable for ages 6+
Commissioned and co-produced by An Tobar and Mull Theatre.
