Limited edition, 80 page full-colour exhibition catalogue for Man is an Animal the Elisabeth Frink show at Messums Wiltshire in September 2021.

Man is an Animal is the most extensive collection of large-scale sculptures by Dame Elisabeth Frink to be shown in this country since the artist’s death in April 1993. Loaned from various institutions and private collectors, it was first exhibited at the Gerhard Marcks Haus Museum in Bremen, Germany.

The catalogue features essays by Dr Arie Hartog, curator of Gerhard Marcks Haus Museum, curator and art historian Feico Hoekstra, Peter Murray CBE founder and executive director of Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and author Veronika Wiegartz.

Elisabeth Frink

Born in Thurlow, Suffolk, Dame Elisabeth Frink (1930-1993) trained at Guildford School of Art (1947-49), and at Chelsea School of Art (1949-1952) under Bernard Meadows and Willi Soukop. These studies, combined with visits to Paris that acquainted her with Giacometti and the works of Rodin, culminated in Frink’s first major exhibition at the Beaux Art Gallery in 1952.
