“I’ve long been frustrated with the word catalogue, feeling the publication accompanying an exhibition can be so much more. With this in mind I found myself, at the beginning of the year, stripping the studio walls of scraps of paper, photocopying images from studio books and from my camera, with the idea of creating a ‘sketch book section’. This I thought would provide the reader with a little more insight into the thinking involved in the making of the artworks and the spirit and environment in which they are made. This section is typical of the type of sketch book I would normally keep, employing drawing, water colour, emulsion paint, photocopies and glue. The only difference being it is tailored to the bronzes beautifully photographed by Doug Atfield and Tim Bowden in the second section of the book, together with the wonderful essays by Fiona Gruber and Wilfred Wright.” – Laurence Edwards, March 2024.
Over 100 pages featuring sketches, maquettes, a first look at Laurence’s etchings and new sculptures by the artist as he brings the creative process to his exhibition catalogue for the first time. Includes essays by art historian Wilfrid Wright and broadcaster Fiona Gruber.
