Marion Thomson studied Fine Art at The University of Newcastle upon Tyne (1979 – 1983) before gaining a Postgraduate Diploma from the Royal Academy Schools, London in 1991. Marion has always had a great love for landscape and the outdoors. Her earliest memories are as a young girl accompanying her mother and twin sister on sketching outings around the woodland and lakeshore of Lough Erne in County Fermanagh, where she grew up. Today – although Marion does not consider herself a ‘landscape painter’ – her work arises from a deep response to nature, in particular to natural elements such as weather, seasonal temperature, changing light, atmosphere, mood, a day in the season. Her paintings are her response to feeling and memory evoked from her surroundings – they are non-representational and have no narrative.
