Maria Hatling is a South Korean-born, Norwegian-British artist currently living and working in London. A mostly self-taught artist, she transitioned into a full-time studio practice over the past five years following more than a decade in fashion and design. Her multidisciplinary work—spanning painting, etching, and monotypes—reflects a deepening visual language shaped by personal storytelling. Born in South Korea and adopted to Norway as a six-month-old baby, she grew up surrounded by Nordic nature before later relocating to the UK as an adult. While her identity is shaped by multiple cultures, her work remains deeply rooted in her Scandinavian upbringing. This closeness to nature is reflected in her colour palette and in her preference for clean, simple, yet deliberate gestural marks.
