Elisabeth Frink: Sculpture is a catalogue raisonné and a celebration of the work of this most popular English artist. For the first time it documents and illustrates all her sculpture from students works in the late 1940s until 1984. Major works in their settings – the country, towns or interiors – are explored in more detail in the 64 pages of colour photographs taken especially for the book by Jorge Lewinsky and selected by the artist herself.
Accompanying the illustrations is a series of reflections on Elisabeth Frink and her art. Bryan Robertson’s revealing interview touches on her background, working technique, aims and beliefs while Sarah Kent looks closely at the themes of animals and men and they appear and reappear through thirty years of sculpture. Peter Shaffer and Brian Phelan explore the heroic or anti-heroic implications of the monumental heads – from the 1960s goggle heads to the Tribute and In memoriam series.
