“Known in Zulu as Quathlamba, the ‘Battlement of Spears’, the Drakensberg rises like a fortress, forming a natural barrier between Lesotho and South Africa. Dawn’s light, cutting through the morning cloud, reveals these basalt buttresses and deep valleys, the Tugela River flowing in the distance following its 1km vertical descent from the escarpment.”
