Adrian Gardner‘s work is a reflection on the human condition, how we experience the world, and make sense of life in both the past and present.  There is a strong current of joy, celebrating colour and pigment and a celebration of life in his paintings.

The translocation series evolved from the idea of imagining places before technology, in a world infinitely bigger and more magical. The inspirations in these pieces contrast both Portuguese azulejo – blue tiles that were a way of recording distant places and more contemporary Op Art. The personal experience of having a family who worked in shipping for generations, Gardner grew up imagining faraway places. Drawing on a wide range of inspirations, such as stories from Greek mythology and the awe one finds in the mountains, Gardner painstakingly paints in glorious colour, celebrating the nature of making, both beautiful and colourful, entwining hope and loss and joy in these beautiful lyrical paintings.
