A new series of paintings by contemporary artist Tom Robinson. The dynamic canvases presented conveyed richness, depth and vitality and reflected the intensity of the artist’s relationship with paint. Rhythmic planes of colour traversed the canvas demonstrating the fluid movement of Robinson’s intuitive yet considered approach. In this series, there was greater experimentation with the texture, density and layering of the pigment. The paint is noticeably thicker in a number of works, and some have additional elements collaged to the canvas prompting a shifting of key as the surface plane is disrupted. In each painting, complex interactions of colour and form act in concert with the paint marks to create individual tensions. The result is a series of dramatic images of kaleidoscopic colour exuding luminosity and pulsating with kinetic energy.
