The performances by our 4X20 winners were a fantastic opportunity to see work by up-and-coming choreographers at the start of their careers in the intimate setting of the tithe barn. The performances were followed by a post-show Q&A with the artists.
The event presented the work of AOmaon Collectif and Roseanna Anderson. 4X20 is a platform for emerging choreographers who have previously presented at least one staged performance. It supports an open call and selection process leading to the presentation of two works within Festival each year, one previously existing and the other brand new, created specifically for the Festival and funded by the programme.
4X20 takes its name from the number of dancers – no more than 4 and the optimum length of time – no more than 20 minutes. It is hoped that this platform will travel across venues and become a benchmark for emerging talent presentation. In acknowledgement of the lack of opportunity for female choreographers, this year’s call out for 4X20 was aimed at female identifying participants only.
