Presence: The Figure in British Sculpture – Postwar and Contemporary

PREVIEW: Friday 5 July, from 6pm. BOOK PLACE

This exhibition showcases some of the finest examples of figurative sculpture created in Britain from 1945 to the present day, and explores the myriad materials and techniques employed by artists to tackle this most dominant and enigmatic subject in art history. The artworks range in style, medium and date, but they all share a preoccupation with the human body as a central theme.

The show raises questions about what constitutes figurative art, and why artists return, time and again, to this subject. It makes us think about our relationships with our own bodies and the way we communicate with others through body language, and what it means to objectify the human body in art.
