FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Our annual architectural symposium continued to look at the positive impact of innovation in construction and design in confronting some of the many challenges we face in contemporary society. It considered how thinking differently can present new solutions to old problems and looked at how imaginative architectural solutions can help shape our everyday lives. The focus of the talks were on the concept of home and dwelling, subject matter that was interrogated by a selection of leading architectural thinkers in this field presenting on a range of creative projects and ideas.
The subject of housing has moved up the political agenda, with the current government promising to build 1.5 million new homes during their five-year term. Whether this is achievable or even desirable is certainly debatable, but issues of scale, design, beauty, sustainability and appropriateness are rarely discussed. The symposium will bring these ideas to the fore and consider the relationship between aesthetic design and functionality.
