Barnabas Calder
Author
Barnabas Calder is head of the Architectural History Research Cluster at the University of Liverpool, and a trustee of the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain.
He is author of Architecture: From Prehistory to Climate Emergency (Pelican, 2021). Kengo Kuma writes of its Japanese edition: “Through the perspective of energy, architecture and the environment are seamlessly linked, and the architectural histories of all countries are joined. This is an epoch-making work that nullifies all previous ‘architectural histories of form’.”
Barnabas will look at the long history of repair, adaptation and reuse that goes back to the earliest buildings we can trace. He will argue that human history shows us that we already know how to live good lives that are profoundly sustainable.
